Projects for SLUM REHABILITATION in Pune

One can for sure, fall in love with the cultural city of Maharashtra for its happening night life and high standard of living, however, cannot ignore the slum areas in the city.

What is the need for Slum Rehabilitation?

Pune, the cultural capital and educational centre of Maharashtra state! The affordable housing provided by the urban local bodies, private housing sector, town planners & the private developers does not match with the speed of urbanization. Purchasing a property of one’s own has now become out of reach for the common man in the city due to the increasing rates, thus resulting in the formation of slum pockets in the urban areas of the city.

Naiknavare Developers Pvt. Ltd., under the SRA scheme, has taken this opportunity to build well structured residential and commercial spaces in the slum areas of Pune like the ones near Dandekar Bridge and Ramtekdi in Pune.

If we speak about the location of Dandekar Bridge, there exists the Parvati Temple, one of Pune’s historical landmarks created by the Peshwas. The 1961 floods led to devastation in western parts of the city which resulted in a housing crunch for the people belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society. The foothills of Parvati hills and adjoining areas, then turned into an ideal spot for the people to build temporary shelters which then led to the establishment of shanty towns on both sides of the Sinhagad ROAD.

Naiknavare Developers Pvt. Ltd. aims at constructing  1000 permanent self-contained dwelling units and commerce generating structures across 6.5 acres of land in the Dandekar Bridge slum region for slum rehabilitation in order to bring about a marked improvement in the overall area.

Naiknavare Developers have been trying to ensure that they add  to the overall growth of the people of the city and also in improving the quality of lives of the people of the slums.

From Slums to Flats with Naiknavare Rehabilitation Projects

Maharashtra, the second largest state, lies just along the bank of the Mutha River. The cultural capital, Pune, faces lots of challenges as they continue to pursue economic growth. The city houses various manufacturing companies as well as automobile. Pune became the center of education and research institute that attract people not only from India but also migrants from different parts of Asia.

Not so long ago, the city is full of slum area and people with no regard for health and wellness. Mahatma Phule Peth is a slum area in Pune. The place was named after the social activist by whom he fought for the right of women for education. Today, while Pune improves the living condition of people living in the slums, Naiknavare project that rehabilitates this place had started. This slum awarded to the company will soon provide decent shelters to the people. Since the area is a good place for commerce, space will also be provided to accommodate local livelihood that uplifts the living condition of people in this part of Pune. In doing this, the company aims to promote better sanitation in the city and more space for migrants. People living in the slums will be given decent jobs through various industries that are expanding in the area.

Pune is the center of cultural tradition thus; Parvati Temple is among the historical landmark of Pune. In 1961, there was a great flood that affects the economic condition of the people living in the western part. In the foothills of the Pravati hills are shanties for informal settlers that will be developed by Naiknavare for dwellers. This will bring better homes for townspeople as well as generate income for the dwellers who wish to start a small business to improve living condition. This is a good place as it is accessible via the Sinhagad Road. This is the future site of the Dandekar Bridge residential and commercial spaces in Pune.

Juna Bazar, Mangalwar Peth is among the areas that were destroyed by the flood in 1961. Most people here are migrants and laborers that can contribute in the growth of various companies that expands in Pune. Despite the tragedies, people in the slums never give up on hope. They work hard to earn their keep and thus Naiknavare would want to provide better homes where the family can relax and live comfortably.

There is a rapid development and rehabilitation in the city as more and more residences are demanding for decent homes. While innovative and spacious residences can easily be acquired by those who have good income. People who are living in slums are also given adequate homes and increasing their way of living as they are being hired as they were offered better jobs in the industry and as part of the constructions of various homes.

Naiknavare is one with the government that helps in the rehabilitation of the city. With the good and stable income generating from the industry as well as the rise of small and medium scale entrepreneurship, they have decent lives in the city. This also helps in creating a friendly and safe community. We have to understand the people living in the slum that they are forced to do things that are against their will because they need to live. Giving those alms for them to use for the day is not enough. Giving them jobs that can help them improve their lives is best as they can be dignified and can live decently.

With the progress in the city on-going, the slum dwellers are protected by rights that give them uplift lives from their current situation. Giving their homes and getting employment for their livelihood contributes to the growth of the city. They become assets with better income and housing options that are decent and easy to acquire.

Homes that are developed by Naiknavare conform to the standard of the local government. The rise of the buildings for the residence gives ample space for other infrastructure like wider roads and better drainage systems. Space can also be used for other social amenities as well as commercial spaces. Buildings can be used to house various offices that are expanding in the city.

Naiknavare is one with locals that wishes to create better homes for everyone. We provide affordable and decent homes that can uplift their way of living. Hand in hand with the government, we create a safe and secure society.

The Government of Maharashtra also emphasizing on the need for social welfare has brought an amendment to the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act 56 and introduced a nodal agency Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). The SRA Programme analyzes and reviews existing positions of slum areas in the city so as to identify slum areas and plan rehabilitation scheme accordingly to the best of SRA capabilities. The development initiatives are handed over to property developers who try and meet the needs by compensating the landowner as well as the developer by awarding them with the Transferable Development Rights (TDR).

Reports have indicated that India has about 100 Million slums dwellers and rapidly urbanizing population compelled by inadequacy of city governments to meet its demands has indeed worsened the situation. The people residing in these slums like Hawkers, Labourers, Rag-pickers, domestic servants, Rag-pickers and others are all vital for trades in the city. Therefore, improving their standard of living and building a better self confidence with a new identity is indeed important for bringing about an overall positive change in the city.
